Even worse, is the faith in the accuracy of the calibration of the shutoff mechanisms in gas pumps. Consumers seem to think these devices are precision calibrated lab instruments. Other factors are the orientation (level) of the car when filling along with the characteristics of a particular cars fuel fill path in various positions along with temperature and other factors. In other words, the fuel pump click-off method of measuring mileage isn't what it's cracked up to be.
Hyundai's are among the safest vehlcies on the market today. They have most the latest safety features and are designed to protect you in a crash. That may not have been true 10+ years ago, but the latest models are just as safe as anything Honda/Toyota builds. Since you are a teen I would recommend the Elantra, it gets great gas mileage, but still has enough size to keep you safe and carry passengers comfortably. Also, since you are a teen I would recommend going with a used car since you are likely to have some accidents as you learn to drive. Buying used will save you a lot, look for a car 2-4 years old with under 70,000 miles, you should be able to find this for less then 1/2 the new price.
